Courses
Advanced Vehicle Operations and Preparedness is a supervised driving support program designed for Colorado permit holders who have already completed the required pre-permit steps and are working toward their supervised driving-hour requirement.
AVOP is not currently a Colorado Certified Commercial Driving School and does not provide pre-permit driver education, written-test preparation, state-approved driver education certificates, or official behind-the-wheel certification. Instead, AVOP is designed to support families after the student has obtained, or is ready to obtain, a valid instruction permit and needs structured supervised driving practice.
The program helps parents and guardians bridge the gap between basic permit eligibility and real-world driving readiness. Colorado requires minor drivers to complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving, including 10 nighttime hours, before applying for a license. The DMV also states that the driving log must be signed by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult 21 or older.
Under HB24-1021, Colorado recognizes several individuals who may supervise a minor permit holder, including a parent, certain guardians, an individual 21 or older who signed the affidavit of liability, an approved driver education instructor, or an alternate permit supervisor appointed by the person who signed the affidavit of liability.
Students enrolled in this program would be operating in one of two ways:
Affidavit Liability Supervisor Model (ALS Model)
AVOP program will signs the applicable DR2460 affidavit/liability documentation as the primary signer where legally appropriate. This puts any liability on us to help safeguard the student and their family from suit if a traffic crash occurs while under the direct supervision of an AVOP instructor. As we would carry higher company liability pricing for this operating model is higher.Alternate Permit Supervisor Model (APS Model)
The parent or legal guardian who signed the affidavit of liability appoints an AVOP instructor as an alternate permit supervisor, allowing AVOP to provide structured supervised drive time. If a student is involved in a traffic crash wile under the supervision of an AVOP instructor, the students parents assume all risks and liabilities of that situation.
